It had been a while since I did any physical activity that needed me to jump off walls or let alone run. So once the spring play rolled around, our director informed us that there will be many times throughout the scenes that require high intensity movement. I was shocked and nervous because I couldn't recall the last time I ran. So I did what I had to do to make the daily laps less gruesome for my tired little legs. I began cutting sugary drinks from my diet and lessen the amount of red meat I consumed. I began running 15 laps every other day to begin building up my stamina so that once performances start, I wouldn't be a sweaty mess on stage. By the end of our last rehearsel, my goal is to go through the workout scene without any problems.

Apon joining the drama club, I knew one of my biggest challenge would be accepting a character that was completely out of my comfort zone. As preparations for Beauty and the Beast came along, I was assigned to get into the obnoxious and airheadness that is the bimbettes. This was no easy task. Often times I felt defeated when I couldn’t scream as loud as the other two bimbettes or when I couldn’t hit a cue right. With all this in mind I found it was better to fake it than to stand up there and completely look lost and unfocused. So with my ego aside, I went full blonde valley girl mode and left all insecurities out the door. I gained a confidence with my experience in which I can use to find more opportunities such as this one.
During my junior year, I went seeking a new challenge that wouldn’t only benefit my education, but also my overall personal skills. When I got word that the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles offered volunteering services to students, I eagerly signed myself up. Soon after I began working around some of the most inspiring people, I might ever meet in my lifetime. Each person I interacted with helped me grow not only as a scholar, but as a leader as well. Overall my experience at NHM has inspired me to continue seeking new opportunities outside the usual ideas.
As my senior year approached, I figured I wanted to try a new challenge and join the performing arts program at school. This was not an easy job, because I tend to close up and give up easily when things get too difficult. However in this case, I was surrounded by inspiring people who helped me open up to my assigned characters and give life to my love for the theater. This benefited me inside and outside the classroom as well, for it improved my speaking skills and confidence to talk amongst a crowd of people. I plan to continue being involved within the club for it's help in improving my overall skills and perspective on things.
After the tragic earthquake that hit Mexico, it left many citizens without homes, clothes and food. Because of this L.E.A.P constructed a canned food drive to send to families in mexico city, which is where it was impacted the most. We invited the entire community to donate whatever they could and filled up 4 boxes worth of cans. The cans were then sent to students at the university in Mexico city in which they distributed the items to the families living around there. This helped me gain a new insight on how I could help others far from me, when situations like this happen.
During a stressful week, the I.B. class decided to take a day to rejuvenate a more clam and easy mood between them. This experience brought the group together by challenging ourselves on completing the basics of yoga. As we struggled with some of the positions, the group gained a new connection with each other and and we also can finally say, we've mastered in doing the basics of yoga.
During the month of April, there was a huge concern between some of the actions taken place within our government and the science department. By this there were theories and threats of budget cuts towards research in science. Along with other peers and teachers , I joined in the march to help spread awareness towards the importance of funding science research to continue solving the world's many mysteries. By this, my participation in the march brought upon a new goal of mine, which was to continue to voice the importance of the science department and the roll it plays on all humans and animals.
Prior to earth day, the environmental club that I run, organised a week filled with activities that would encourage students to get involved in preserving our earth. We constructed educational games as well as presentations that would spark an interest in people to not only join the club but also continue follow LEAP's mission. By this, I learned how to construct an event, communicate ideas and share information with others that would not only benefit a hand full, but everyone.
During my junior year, I along with other peers traveled up north to visit schools near the bay and gained new insights to the campuses far from home. Over the course of the trip I was exposed to new schools that gave me an entirely new interest in what I wanted to pursue academically and financially.I also gained new knowledge on some of the programs and opportunities that are out there. One university that completely caught my attention, was Sacramento state university, for it's welcoming environment and student representatives.
For our first field trip as a new IB club, we decided to expand our knowledge on the history of Japanese American citizens after the tragedy of Pearl Harbor. To my surprise our tour guide was actually experienced the camps and brought upon the group a new perspective to this time in American history.
